I have had the pleasure of using the Sony Ericsson W890i this past week, I have always been a big fan of the products Sony produces and my opinion hasn’t changed after playing with this phone. The slim look and 3G speeds made it very fast when I’m on the go and it certainly wasn’t a bulky phone in my pocket. This has been one of the first phones I’ve seen and held that has the camera on the front and the back, at the moment though we are not able to do video calls in the US because the technology has yet to be fully released here.

I’m a huge music on the go kind of girl and I was always very used to my iPod, but I decided to venture out and load my music on the Sony and take it on the go. One feature I loved was the ability to listen to all my music and make playlists, but most of all it was nice being able to listen to the radio. Sound quality is as impressive as you’d expect from something with the Walkman logo, but obviously the radio - which uses the headphones as an aerial - sees quality vary according to signal strength.

Some additional features of the phone include PictBridge to print straight from your phone to your printer, just plug it in and choose the photo you would like to print. Another cool feature is the Sony Ericsson’s ability to recognize music tracks; called TrackID, you just record a clip and give it a minute and it will come back with the Artist Album and Track name. It’ll also offer you the choice of buying the track from the company’s PlayNow download service. The Sony Ericsson W890i measures 104 x 46.5 x 9.9 mm and comes with a music kit that includes a 2gig memory card, a stereo hands free headset, a usb cable, charger and pc software. Nokia to launch E66, E71 phones next week

Nokia this morning has inadvertently confirmed the existence of its E66 and E71 smartphones through comments made today to Reuters. Senior executive VP Anssi Vanjoki explains that a "group" of Eseries devices will launch in the same summer window as the N96 media phone. The company itself doesn't provide details, though sources speaking to the news agency claim that both devices will be uncovered next week and share similar features.

Previous reports and early testing have confirmed the feature sets are very similar and aimed at both business and home users. Both the QWERTY keyboard-equipped E71 and the number pad-only E66 will have 3.2-megapixels as well as GPS, Wi-Fi, and 128MB of memory that allows smoother multitasking. At least the E71 is known to support quad-band GSM and 3G Internet access through AT&T's network in the US.

Pricing hasn't been unveiled, though either phone is believed to undercut the N96 price by dropping the sharper 5-megapixel camera, the DVB-H tuner, and the 16GB of internal storage present in the Nseries device.

O2 Xda Atmos Review

O2’s Xda smartphone series has been around for a long time, and new models get added to the range as time trundles on. It is fair to say that the Xda range has always shown a preference for touch-screen Windows Mobile devices over the non-touch-screen phones, but the Xda Atmos falls into the latter camp.

O2 Xda Atmos - Find that keyboard
The Xda Atmos is, in fact, an HTC product. Available as the SIM-free HTC S730, it has had a bit of a shell redesign for O2, and some tweaking to its innards too, but the basic idea remains the same.

The device looks like a candybar, yet it packs in a QWERTY keyboard. The Xda Atmos is made in two parts, with the keyboard on the lower part. This slides out from a long edge of the Atmos when needed. When you slide it out the screen flicks itself automatically from candybar-style portrait format to landscape.

The double layer design is not unfamiliar, as smartphones with sliding keyboards generally adopt it. It makes the Xda Atmos slightly thicker than your standard candybar mobile.

And if you are into mobile email you’ll be happy with Office Mobile, which is part of Windows Mobile 6.0, as you can tap away and edit email attachments, and then send them. You won’t be able to touch-type really fast, but the keyboard is a fine thumbpad.

The Call and End keys are long and sit to the left and right sides, leaving lots of space for a relatively large navigation pad and softmenu buttons.

In general, we prefer Windows Mobile smartphones to have a touch-screen, as it makes it easier to get around. However, we like the general design of the Xda Atmos; its sliding keyboard is really swanky and easy to use, and the screen is relatively large.
